How it works

Never done a mass free book day event? The concept is pretty straightforward. Participating authors submit their book to be part of the promotion, then start the process of ensuring that their included book is free on the scheduled day. This could be as simple as scheduling the free days for KDP Select books, or price matching Amazon with other vendors to ensure multiple outlets are free. Keep in mind that price-matching via Amazon can take a couple weeks, so this is not a task to be left until the last minute.

It is up to the author to ensure that their books are free. Books that are not free on the day of the promotion will be removed.

Then on the day of the event, all participating authors send a newsletter to their mailing list to inform readers about the event, and they direct readers to the PrismReads page. Readers appreciate being able to find so many free books in one place, and all participating authors benefit from the increased exposure.

After the event ends you can set your book back to normal price.

Questions

• Is there a participation fee? No, participation in the event is free.
• Do I have to send a newsletter? Yes, this is how the event benefits everybody.
• Is there a minimum mailing list size? No.
• Does my book have to be wide? No. Simply apply with URLs to retailers where your book is sold.
• Do KU books qualify? As long as they are able to be purchased for free on the event date, borrowing through KU is not the same.
• Who will make graphics promoting the event? Graphics will be crowd-sourced, or make your own.
